In Nov 1861 he re-enlisted in Jacob Ziegler's. He was in battles on: Georgia Campaign, Nashville, Tenn., and other small battles in Georgia. He also was in battles in Richmond, KY, Corinth, MS, Cattanooga, TN, Chickmauga, TN, Murfeesboro, TN, and many others. (CFA I, p. 489)
OCCUPATION: After the Civil War he was a merchant, in partnership with his father. At the time of his death he was the Wood Co., TX Tax Collector

T. Elmer CongerEMIGRATION: T. Elmer Conger moved to Greenville sometime around 1910, based on his mother's residence as found on her Confederate Widow's Pension Application. He is known to have visited with the family in 1934 at the time of the funeral of his cousin, Robert Fowler Conger, as it was mentioned in the obituary which appear in the Wood County Democrat.

RELATIONSHIP: Siblings Andrew Jackson and Jefferson Davis Conger married sisters Louzinka Minerva and Jemmie Sallie Haines, respectively.

EMIGRATION: He was a young boy when his parents moved from Georgia to Wood Co., TX, prior to the Civil War.
OCCUPATION: Farmed the Conger and Haines farms for most of his life. He was a highly respected farmer. He grew cotton, melons, ribbon cane, sorghum, peas, beans and many other crops.
RESIDENCES: His family lived in the Lone Star Community, just north of Quitman, TX. In Quitman there is a Conger street which runs north to the location of the old high school. About 500 acres in the vicinity of Quitman once belonged to the Conger family and was farmed extensively by them. Gradually they sold off the land as farming became less and less of the central means of support.

Thomas Jefferson CongerDEATH: 14 Sep 1918. Thomas Jefferson Conger was found dead inside of a railroad boxcar in the Katy Railroad yard in Dallas, TX. Apparently a load of lumber shifted and fell on him, crushing him to death.
