"On this 15th day of Oct. 1888, personally appeared before me a County Court Clerk of a Court of Recordd in and for the County and State aforesaid, Jane Conger, resident in the county of Crittenden and State of Kentucky, aged 64 years, who being duly sworn, makes the following declaration, in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862: That she is the widow of Elisha Conger, who was a corporal in Co. "H" commanded by Capt. T.M. Duvall in the 20th Reg of Ky, in the war of 1861; that her maiden name was Jane Conger and that she was married to said Elisha Conger on or about the 19th day of April 1836, at Malinda Conger's the county of Smith and the State of Tenn., by John Lancaster, Esq. He was born in Smith Co., in the state of Tenn., is sixteen years of age, five feet five inches high, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 10 days."I certify that I have carefully examined the said Joshua Conger of Capt. Thomas Jewell's Co. and find him incapable of performing duties of a soldier because of extreme debility induced by chronic diarrhea. He is only sixteen years of age and cannot soon perform military duty, if ever. (signed) H.W. McCorm, Surgeon.
