RECOLLECTIONS:
Perrpoint, April 17th 1863
Dear Nephew Lemule,You may think we have forgotten you but have not. We was out to Mr. Sepher's not long since Mrs. Sepher showed me your letter. We would like to have you come and make us [a] visit. Your relatives would like to see you very much. Your Aunt Diantha is living with your Uncle Samule Conger in the northern part of Wisconsin, Duran town, Pipin County, Wisconsin. They wrote to know where you and your sister Angline was and wanted you to write them. Your Uncle Seneca lives near us.
I would like very much to see [you]. I think you would like to come and see [the] place of your Mother's nativity in childhood and make us a good long visit. Work is not hard to be got. Your Uncle Sephes folks only 6 miles from us. You can come and make them a visit and make us one also.
I have four children, thre[e] boys and one girl. The oldest boys are married. Spencer was married in May, Henry in December, so I am left quite along [sic]. The boy that is left at home is 16 years of age. Mahala is 14 years of age. Your Uncle Jonas often talks of you and would like to see you. Jonas resembles your mother in looks. If you should see him you would know how she looked. I am going to write Angline. I want you to write back as soon as you get this letter so we will know where you are getting along. The times are very hard at present time, but am in hopes it will [be] better soon. Grain is very high, prudence is dear and most every thing.
I do not know exactly where Angline is. Mrs. Sepher told me she was in the Town of Granville, Kent Cko., Michigan. If she lives there now, I would like [to] have you write and let me know where she is now. Direct your letter to Ellsworth, St. Lawrence Co., N. York.

RECOLLECTIONS: Excerpts from a 1 Mar 1963 letter by Bessie (Conger) Johnson Ward, daughter of Albert Marcus Conger and Cyrene Annabel Lee.
My grandfather, Caleb Conger, was a fine Christian gentleman; in fact he was a CONGER, and that always stood for integrity and honor. He was a farmer and stock raiser, made a speciality of sheep and wool. My father told me of his taking a shipment of wool to a warehouse, and his insurance was $1.00 an hour, and when he went home he had $96,000 in a little black bag.
Their farm was some distance from the village of Willsboro, [NY], which used to be spelled, 'Willsborough.' They lived on what was called, 'The Point.' It extended to Lake Chaplaine.
My grandfather went every morning to the village and got the mail, and operated a little post office in his house. He was postmaster for years and years until he died.
My grandmother, Nancy Morehouse, came from Germany. Her folks settled in New York on what was known as the 'Dutch Patent,' which means 'land for public persual,' or a 'claim.' I believe this was in the Mohawk Valley. I never knew her, but from all I ever heard about her she must have been a wonderful kind, patient woman, and a wonderful person to the needy. When she was buried, people came from far and near to pay their respects and tell the family of her kindness to them.
