BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Davis Conger was born at Cato, Cayuga county, New York. While he was very young his parents removed to Hannibal, New York, on a farm where his father had built a grist mill. He worked with his father until about 1834, attending the common school and for [sic] terms at the academy at Hannibalville, New York. In the fall of 1834, he began to study medicine with Dr. Alexander Proudfit, remaining with him until 1 Apr 1836, when he went to Chicago, which at that time had about 1,000 inhabitants.In the fall of 1837, he removed to Alabama and read medicine with Dr. Pierson, until June 1839, when he went to Albany, New York, and that fall attended a course of medical lectures there. In the following spring he began studying with Dr. Pardee of Volney, New York, and remained with him until he graduated.
In June 1841 he began the practice of medicine in Phoenix, New York, but sonn went as a physician on the Welland Canal, at Allensburg. Shortly after this he removed to Cato, New York and practiced until April 1850, when he went west to California, and remained there until 10 Dec 1854.
On 1 Apr 1855, together with Dr. C.M. Lee, he started the first drugstore in Phoenix [NY]. Four years later he bought out Dr. Lee's interest and continued in the drug business there until his death. (Van Doren Genealogy)
