OBITUARY:
George Tanner Conger died suddenly on Monday, March 29th [2010], at his winter home in Cortez, Colorado where cremation has taken place.Born in Akron, Ohio on August 1, 1927, Dr. Conger served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He graduated from Cornell Medical School in NYC and he interned and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Dr. Conger practiced and was on the staff at Akron City Hospital for 25 years before retiring.
He enjoyed a long and active retirement.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Barnett and Marjorie Tanner Conger. Dr. Conger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette and his four daughters, Ann Tomlinson (Richard) of Chicago, Ill., Susan Conger-Austin (James) of Chicago, Ill., Janne Motter (Jon) of Plano, Texas, Nancy Ockene (Brad) of Chicago, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Sidney Barnett Conger, Jr. of Houston, Texas and sister, Marjorie Conger Harkins of Columbus, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Thursday, April 8th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 West Market Street, Akron, OH 44313 or a charity of your choice in his honor.
