BIRTH-CONFLICT: According to Valerie L. Talsma he couldn't have been born in New Jersey. His family moved to Ontario, Canada in 1786. He was probably born in Hallowell Twp., Prince Edward Co., Ontario, Canada.

John Goldsmith was born in Sophiasburgh [Canada] Jan. 21, 1796, was converted in Portland Twp. in 1820 and died of erysipelas in the same place May 16, 1863; predeceased by a son and two daughters; survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Phoebe Orser, also 5 daughters. The name of the youngest is Charlotte.

Mrs. Phebe Goldsmith, nee Orser, widow of John Goldsmith, whom she married in her 19th year, died near Harrowsmith [Canada], Feb. 15, 1867, in her 68thy year. Nine years ago her daughter died, and since then Mrs. Goldsmith lost her husband, her only son and two more daughters.
