BIOGRAPHY:
JoNelle Jean Wagner was born on 3 Aug 1932 in a farmhouse one mile south of Oakdale, Antelope county, NE, where her father had been born 32 years before. She grew up on this farm, enjoying the activities and neglecting the duties of the typical farm child of the 1930's and 40's. The family was composed of her father, Irven Edward Wagner, her mother, Josephine Conger Wagner, her brother, Irven Frederick Wagner and her sister, Jacklyn Nan Wagner, and herself. Grandmother Sarah Garner Conger lived with the family from September 1932, when her husband Elias Conger died, until her death in 1948.She attended the Oakdale Public Schools in Oakdale, NE. She graduated from Oakdale High School in 1949. She attended Wayne State College at Wayne, NE where she majored in home economics and minored in English. She met her first husband, Paul Harold Roberts, at Wayne State, where he was also a student. They were married on 4 Mar 1951 at the Methodist Church in Oakdale, NE.
On 4 Jan 1952, Paul was inducted into the U.S. Navy, and served for four years during the Korean War. While Paul was in the service, the Roberts two children were born. Jeri Dianne was born on 2 Aug 1952 and Paul Douglas was born on 17 Dec 1953. In January 1956, Paul entered Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla, MO, where he earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering in May 1959.
In September 1956, JoNelle began teaching home economics and biology at Bourbon High School, Bourbon, MO. In order to renew her teaching certificate each year, she attended summer school. In July 1959 she earned her Bachelors Degree in Education from Wayne State College. Since she was no athlete and not much of a musician, she had to excel academically. She graduated with high distinction.
The family moved to Kimball, NE in August 1959. JoNelle taught school at Dix, NE; Lodgepole, NE and Peetz, CO, while Paul worked in the "oil patch" in western Nebraska, first for the Halliburton Company and then for 33 years for the Nebraska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission at Sidney, NE.
The marriage of Paul and JoNelle Roberts ended with their divorce in 1976.
JoNelle retired from teaching in 1985.
On 19 Jul 1985, at Chautauqua, NY, JoNelle married Vernon Fredrick Linnaus. Vernon had also grown up on a farm at Oakdale, NE. Vern held an EdD from the University of Nebraska. He had taught accounting and economics at the University of Arizona and Central Arizona College for 21 years. After their marriage they lived in Tucson, AZ. Vern Linnaus retired in 1987 and they couple moved to Norfolk, NE where they were living as of December 1995.

ORGANIZATIONS: JoNelle Linnaus wrote to Maxine Leonard on 19 Oct 1992. I used the material from THE CONGER FAMILY OF AMERICA when I applied for membership in the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America recently. The genealogist for DFPa accepted all the material in the book without asking for additional proofs.I trace my lineage through David Conger patriot (@1741-1778) and John Belconger's son, John (1674-1727).
Another highlight for me in using the Conger Family book has been visiting the graves of David (1767-1833) and Sarah Conger (1767-1833) at the Old Bates Fork Cemetery in Greene County, PA, this past July. The cemetery is terribly overgrown with weeds, but the flowers and American flag from Memorial Day were still near the markers. It was an exciting experience. Five years ago we visited Cameron, OH and other Monroe Co., OH cemeteries.
I knew Daryl Conger at Sidney, NE and we had to go back to John Belconger to find our common ancestor. He is descended from son, Job, and I from son, John.
My mother was always proud of her Conger heritage and enjoyed receiving the "Confab." She died in 1990 and I now have her book. Her first cousin is Minnie Conger Brown of Santa Maria, CA.

Visitation will be Monday from 4-6 p.m. at Home for Funerals in Norfolk.She died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Morningstar Assisted Living Center at Rapid City.
JoNelle J. Wagner Linnaus was born on Aug. 3, 1932, on the family farm one mile south of Oakdale to Irven E. and Jo (Conger) Wagner. She attended the Oakdale Public Schools and graduated in 1949. That fall she entered Wayne State College.
On March 4, 1951, JoNelle married Paul H. Roberts. The next eight years she spent rearing her two children, teaching in Bourbon, Mo., and finishing her degree at Wayne State during the summers. She graduated in 1959.
The family then moved to western Nebraska, living in Kimball, Dix and finally settling south of Sidney in 1962. JoNelle began teaching at the Peetz, Colo., Plateau School District in 1963 and remained there, teaching English and home economics until she retired in 1985.
On July 19, 1985, JoNelle married Vernon Linnaus in Chautauqua, N.Y. They lived for two years in Tucson, Ariz., until Vern retired from teaching. They moved back to Nebraska and Norfolk.
JoNelle spent these years pursuing family genealogy, including writing a book about her Wagner grandparents and their descendants. She and Vern traveled extensively in the U.S. and made several trips to Europe. Her most memorable trip was to Prussia (Poland) to visit the birthplaces of her Wagner and Johnson ancestors. JoNelle also enjoyed researching and writing articles for the Oakdale Cemetery Newsletter.
JoNelle J. Linnaus was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Vernon Linnaus.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeri Roberts of Las Vegas, Nev., and her son and daughter-in-law, Paul D. and Debra Roberts of Rapid City, S.D. Also surviving are her three beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Lance and Jerilyn Roberts of Rapid City, Michelle and Dean Falcon of Rapid City and Angela and Levi Shute of North Platte.
She also leaves behind two great-granddaughters, Olivia Roberts and Haley Falcon, and great-grandson Lucas Roberts. JoNelle is also survived by her brother, Irven F. and Janet Wagner of Houston, Texas, and her sister, Jacklyn Reimer of Mobile, Ala.
Furthermore, she is survived by her stepchildren, Linda Deiley of Glendale, Ariz., Fred and Socorro Linnaus of Tucson, Ariz., David and Wanda Linnaus of Oakdale and Robert Linnaus of San Clemente, Calif., 11 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-granddaughters.

Services for Dr. Vernon F. Linnaus, 82, of Norfolk [,NE] will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Norfolk with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Home for Funerals.Dr. Linnaus died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Faith Regional Health Services [Norfolk, NE].
Vernon was born on May 3, 1924, at Oakdale, the son of Fred D. and Ida (Jensen) Linnaus. He was raised on the family farm south of Oakdale and attended Mt. Ayre and Star schools. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1942.
Vernon earned his bachelor of arts degree from Midland College in 1949. He returned to teach in Oakdale High School in 1956, which began a career in education of more than 31 years. Vernon later earned his master's degree and doctor of education degree in business education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
In November 1950, Vernon married Betty Patterson in Omaha. They had three sons and a stepdaughter.
Vernon had two career passions - teaching and farming. The farm, which his grandfather homesteaded in 1876, remains in the family. His third passion was researching a topic and writing about it. He had written books on professional baseball in Norfolk and the ill-fated Norfolk-Yankton railroad line. Vernon was working on a book on the Norfolk-Winner, S.D., railroad line at the time of his death. He enjoyed writing for the Oakdale Cemetery Newsletter and contributing articles to the Norfolk Daily News.
On July 19, 1985, Vernon married JoNelle Wagner Roberts in Chautauqua, N.Y.
Following his retirement in 1987 from teaching accounting and economics at Central Arizona College, he and JoNelle enjoyed traveling over most of the eastern United States and in Europe.
Vernon was fascinated with finding his Danish, Swedish and Finnish roots. He had maintained contact with his Swedish relatives who live in Jerbo, where his grandfather was born.
Vernon enjoyed learning languages and had been studying Swedish and German in recent years. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed bantering back and forth with friends and relatives.
Vernon is survived by his wife, JoNelle; his three sons and their spouses, Fred and Socorro Linnaus of Tucson, Ariz., David and Wanda Linnaus of Oakdale and Robert Linnaus of San Clemente, Calif.; his stepchildren, Linda Deiley of Glendale, Ariz., Jeri Roberts of Las Vegas and Paul and Debbi Roberts of Sidney; 10 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
The Rev. James Brewer will officiate.
