W.H. Conger was appointed postmaster [of Plymouth, IN] on July 1, 1897. This post office is at present rated third class; it was formerly second class. The chances are that before long it will be rated as a second class office again.Mr. Conger was born in this county. For three years he was connected with the bicycle factory. Previous to that time he was farming. He is a Mason, and a member of the G.A.R. post. He enlisted on February 4, 1864, in Company I, 155th Indiana Infantry, and was mustered out in August 1865.

COMMENT: Missing links are found in the most unusual ways. Wayne Hobbs Conger of 3235 N. Raceway Road, Indianapolis, IN 46234 was interested in buying a copy of THE CONGER FAMILY OF AMERICA, but he nor his father were in it. His father, Harry Elmer Conger, 1870, was born in Plymouth, Marshall [Co.] IN. Wayne did not know his grandfather's name, but he was postmaster in Plymouth for many years.Your editor wrote to Plymouth for this information but never did get an answer Then over a year ago, Ottice Ridgley Bauman of Charles City, Iowa received a letter from her sister, Gladys Morris of Plymouth, IN. Gladys had enclosed a bulletin about the history of the county because there was a write-up and picture of W.H. Conger -- former postmaster of Plymouth. (Ottice and Gladys are granddaughters of Joseph Morris Conger, 1861, not in CFA [I]; daughters of Ottice Conger Ridgley.)
