OBITUARY: NCHS Senior Dies in One-Car Accident
The Norton community was shocked today [Friday, April 23, 1976] to learn of the death of Steven Todd Drommer, 19, rural Norton, [KS] as the result of a one-car automobile accident south of Norton early this morning.

Steve was fatally injured when the 1974 Chevy Nova he was driving left U.S. Highway 283 about 1.5 miles south of Norton. The Highway Patrol estimated the time of the accident at 2 a.m.

He was alson at the time of the accident which occurred as he drove north toward Norton. His car apparently went out of control and ran off the highway on the west side, overturned several times and came to rest on its top in the west ditch. Steve was thrown from the vehicle. The car was demolished in the crash.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26, 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church at Norton. Memorials have been established to the Youth Involvement Trust Fund of the United Northwest Federal Credit Union to be used for scholarships for seniors and to Cancer Research.

Friends may call at the Enfield-Eckhart Funeral Home, Norton, from 7 p.m. Saturday evening until service time.

Steven was born Dec. 15, 1956 at Norton, the son of Chrissie and Ida Mae Todd Drommer, and lived his entire life on the family farm seven miles northeast of Norton. He attended the Norton grade school and was currently a senior at Norton Community High School.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Norton, the Future Farmers of America, the Busy Jayhawkers 4-H club, a member of the Youth Board of the United Northwest Federal Credit Union, and planned to be a farmer and stockman.

He is survived by his parents, of the home, and a sister, Susan and her husband, John Snodderley, Peoria, Ill.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, George and Jettie Drommer and Harry and Pearl Todd.

Steve was an outstanding student at NCHS and was a leader in the Norton Future Farmers of America chapter where he was presently serving as sentinel. He was to have received the District Proficiency award at the Banquet on May 8 and was to receive the State Farmer Degree, which is awarded to the top two percent of the FFA members in the state, on May 29.

His advisor, Bob Broeckelman, told the Telegram that he was active in many phases of judging, such as livestock, poultry, dairy, dairy products and crops and other FFA activities. "He was a good kid and always thoughtful of others," said Broeckelman.
