OBITUARY: Vernon Conger
Vernon F. Conger, 81, of Greeley, [CO] died Friday, May 5, [2000], at North Colorado Medical Center.He was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Pierce, [CO] to Fred Damon and Maude (Jones) Conger. On Dec. 25, 1937, he married Florence V. Pierce at the parsonage of the First Methodist Church in Fort Collins.
Mr. Conger graduated from high school in Pierce and attended Colorado State University for two years.
He farmed and ranched in the Pierce area until 1986, when he and his wife retired and moved to Greeley.
Mr. Conger was a leader for the Pierce Ag 4-H Club for 27 years. He was instrumental in the purchase of the Meadow Springs Ranch and was president of the Meadow Springs Grazing Association for 25 years. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and served as a delegate to Washington, D.C. in 1990, to promote rural agricultural and ranch issues. He also was a member of the Pierce Senior Citizens and a life member of Greeley Elks No. 809.
Mr. Conger was a member of the Pierce United Methodist Church for 55 years, and, at the time of his death, was serving as a trustee.
His interests included fishing, the outdoors, sports, bowling and spending time with his family.
Survivors are his wife, Florence Conger of Greeley; three daughters, Marjorie A. Cutshall of Pierce, Judy A. Morgan of Brighton and Lynda M. Annis of Pierce; two sons, Bob V. Conger of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Larry B. Conger of Pine Pluff, Wyo.; a sister, Marjorie Hargis of Eaton; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A grandson, Mark Main, is deceased.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Adamson Memorial West Chapel, 2000 47th Ave.
There will be a private family interment at Eaton Cemetery.
