Clara Conger worked in the hoisery mill at Hildebran, like her husband. She looped the toes of socks.Clara and Garland lived together until their son was married and their daughter was in her teens. At that time, due to the heavy drinking and abusive ways of Garland, Clara and Doris moved out of the house. A divorce was not obtained until years later when Clara was almost ready to retire. She was working in the cafeteria of Blowing Rock Hospital, serving food.
Clara was diabetic.
In her later years she lived in a retirement home in Boone, NC.
