COMMENT:
Last week when I wrote about the rural schools in Caldwell Township, [Appanoose County, Iowa], a paragraph was omitted. I mentioned that while I never attended a rural school, Don spent all of his elementary days at the Beard School south of town.

He particularly remembers two of his teachers - Ada Traxler Parsons of Centerville, whom he still likes to tease about pointing her finger at him and the late David Wright of Cincinnati, [IA].

Don tells me that David was hired to "straighten out the big boys" in the school as their unruly behavior had caused the previous teacher to resign.

The first day the boys continued to have their fun. The second day David told his students that they had run the school the day before and that just wasn't right as he was being paid to run the school.

He proceeded to let them know that he meant business. David not only ran the school, he taught his students well, and he set a fine example for them to follow. Don always had a lot of respect for David Wright!
