RECOLLECTIONS:
My grandparents were, Everal Eugene and Martha Josephine (Wright) Jones.Grandpa Everal Jones, along with his family moved from Burrton, KS to a ranch about 10 miles east of Dodge City, KS in 1902. I don't know how Grandpa met Martha Josephine Wright; but, her family was in Dodge City, KS by 1915. They may have traveled there by 1910. Most of their nine children were born on the farm. Everal and Josephine retired from farming before 1950 and moved to Dodge City, KS where Dad graduated from high school in 1951.
I remember now that when I was a young kid of about 10, Grandma Jones (Josephine) visited my parents in Goddard, KS. Mom and Dad had moved to Goddard in 1967. We all packed into the car and traveled to Savonburg, Allen Co., KS. Grandma Jones told us about all the wild times they had at a community building in town. I doubt if they had much to do. My grandparents never drank or played cards. Grandpa Jones smoked a pipe.
After we visited Savonburg, KS we traveled up the road to a little town named Moran, KS. I remember Moran, KS because that is where Ms. Kansas; then, she became Miss America or U.S. was from. When I went to Centerville, IA a few days ago and found a child of William Wright's named Alice, I wondered if that was Aunt Alice whom I saw at Moran, KS. Grandma Jones introduced her as Aunt Alice. She was a child of William Wright and Sophia Wendland. This is Aunt Alice whom I saw at a home in Moran, KS. She was probably living at one of her children's homes. She was very elderly at that time. I remember seeing her curled up on a bed being fed some kind of soup or something. She must have been 90 years old at that time. At least I know where Aunt Alice came from.
