William Ludwell Duncan, my father, graduated from high school in Muscatine, IA., under the name of Bill FINCH.He was in the Army, WW2. I have his enlistment papers.
He and my mother, Marjory Connett, were not married. He told my mother to buy her wedding dress (after she told him she was pregnant) and that he was coming home from California (where he was working) to marry her. When he came home, he never came to see her, and married Jackie Kilfoil, instead.
He was divorced from his wife, Jackie [Kilfoil], with whom he had 2 children. They were Billie Kay, born 1942, and Thomas, born abt 1945.
He died of Lou Gerig's Disease, cancer of the nervous system. He had a terrible death. He is buried in Black Hawk Co., IA., cemetery unknown.

DEATH: Cause not known in boat accident The cause of a boating accident off the Oregon coast that claimed the lives of a Morro Bay, [CA] couple remains a mystery to Coast Guard investigators. The bodies of Oliver Conger, 64, and his wife, Grace, 62, were found floating early July 29, [1975] by fishing boat "Native Daughter," 210 miles northwest of Astoria. Pieces of their boat, "White Cap," were found nearby.
"None of the debris examined so far shows any evidence of a collision with another boat," said Lt. Robert Nield, a marine safety inspector for the Coast Guard in Portland, OR.
Neild said he was waiting to examine more pieces of debris from the "White Cap" which are being brought into port by a fishing boat that was at the scene of the accident. Nield said that a coroner's investigation has determined that the couple did not die from a blast or fire. He said both Congers had water in their lungs.
Mrs. Conger also received shark bites on the leg and arm. Neild pointed out, however, that the sharks were not viciously attacking the bodies. Nield also speculated the bodies were found shortly after the accident because the debris was still together. The reason their bodies were afloat was natural gas in their stomachs and intestines.
The Congers started fishing for pleasure in 1961. Conger had been a contractor and his wife a county employee in Marin County. They were fishing for tuna with a group of 12 other boats about 250 miles off Cape Flattery, WA. Frank Martin, a commercial fisherman, spotted the wreckage of the "White Cap" and sailed over to find the bodies afloat and sharks circling around them.
