RECOLLECTIONS:
Your compiler, Maxine Leonard, tried searching around Minneapolis for Charles Conger's son, William Lloyd Conger, but to no avail. Only by chance in sending form letters to the telephone book contacts, was his widow found in San Francisco, California. Her letter, dated 13 Oct 1969, reads:"Dear Mrs. Leonard --
forgive for needing your 'last call' to get the form filled in on this last branch of the Congers."I'm sure Mr. Conger's dad would have scolded me, too, for not getting this final information off to you sooner -- as you know, he spent many hours in this research work. Maybe there is where Jean [her daughter] got her patience in all the research work she had to do for her published articles and then finally her book. It all had to be so accurate, so I should appreciate what your are going through.
I spent three weeks in June in Minneapolis and even carried your form with me, hoping to get it done there. But everyone was too kind to me and kept me on the run, as they were all admirers of Bill and Jean. Even though they have both gone on, I feel I must be grateful for having shared those years with a wonderful husband and daughter.
"If this 'last call' had not arrived today, I would have felt it was too late to send this form on. By best wishes to you in your completion of this big task!" Signed (Mrs. W.L.) Dagny Conger

11796. Jean Catherine Conger
Jean Catherine CongerNEVER_MARRIED: Never married.
HEALTH_HISTORY: Jean Catherine Conger lost her hearing during her senior year of high school as the result of surgery. She learned lip-reading and was the first deaf student to graduate from Mount Holyoke College. She died while her book, "A History of Cats in Life, Art and Mythology," was under publication.
(Source: The Conger Family of America, Vol. I, 41a - Maxine Crowell Leonard)
RECOLLECTIONS: Of her daughter, Jean Conger, Dagny Conger wrote: "Jean was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College of South Hadley, Mass., Class of '52. We were especially proud of her because in her senior year of high school (1946) she underwent surgery at Mayo's in Rochester which left her without hearing. She was determined to graduate from an Eastern college and learned lip-reading, and was the first deaf student to graduate from Mount Holyoke."Jean became a free-lance writer, having over thirty articles published in various magazines (American Mercury, Parent's Magazine, etc.) Her first book, "The Velvet Paw," (Ivan Obolensky, Publisher) came out the latter part of July 1963. The sad part, she didn't get to see it in published form although [she] knew it was under publication. It is not a children's book but for cat lovers -- 'A History of Cats in Life, Art and Mythology' -- although she said this was just a 'practice' book before she would start on a dog book, her real love."
