Elmer Sisler left home as a young man because he said he was tired of being called "Little Elmer" to distinguish him from his Uncle Elmer Conger, who was referred to as "Big Elmer". He told his girls he slept in haystacks at night. When he got a nickel he spent it for bread and therefore he taught them to be very saving. He worked at the Peter Jansen farm, the man the town of Jansen, Nebraska, was named for. Peter had a large sheep ranch.Later Elmer went to Wynett, Illinois, where he married Marie Caroline Boettcher. He worked at tailoring and restaurant work. After marriage to Marie they established their home in Pekin, Illinois. They had two girls, Helen and Geraldine.
Elmer was associated with the Corn Products Refining Co. until his retirement in 1946 when the family again moved to Nebraska making their home in Fairbury.
Helen married Lawrence Butterfield and remained in Illinois. Lawrence had four children by a previous marriage and they had one son of their own, Calvin. He was killed in Viet Nam before he was 19 years of age. Helen and husband still live in Pekin, Illinois. Lawrence is an auctioneer and Helen is supervisor at the American Distillery in Pekin.
Geraldine graduated from Fairbury High School in 1950; married Herman Lee Katz of Jansen, Nebraska in 1951 where he still farms even though they now live in Fairbury. To this union was born three children: James, Lyle and Julie. James Allen, who graduated from the University in May, will be farming east of Jansen. Lyle is a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, one of the units that still jumps. Julie, age 11, is still at home with her parents in Fairbury.
Elmer passed away July 11, 1966 at age of 85, and is buried in Fairbury Cemetery.
Marie is still living at the Fairbury extended care home.

OBITUARY: Edward S. Conger, 58, former secretary of the Export-Import Bank, died yesterday (15 Aug 1970) at Georgetown University Hospital after a short illness. He lived at the Washington Home for Incurables [Washington, DC].
Born in the Canal Zone, Mr. Conger attended Western High School here and Yale University. In 1940, he joined the Corporation Trust Company and five years later went to work for the Export-Import Bank, where he remained until his retirement in 1966.
As Secretary of the bank, he was the chief administrative officer and was responsible for all records and minutes of all board meetings. He was also keeper of the seal.
