7891. George Parker Conger
George Parker CongerCHURCH_AFFILIATION: Methodist
OCCUPATION: Farmer
BIOGRAPHY: Of her father, Marion (Conger) Barton wrote:
"Since Dad's retirement he has given much time to manual labor for the church and parsonage repairs. He also makes it a point to visit his children and help them with their building projects. Recently he spent his 81st birthday helping put [up] a garage for his grandson, Richard."Dad (George) was born the year a storm took over the East -- The Great Blizzard of '88. One of the few adults who really enjoyed the blizzard was a buyer for a New York department store who, 12 days earlier, had taken a chance on purchasing a whole carload of unclaimed snow shovels.
"At age 16 Dad worked for 6 weeks in the R.R. Depot restaurant. He went on to passenger trains with trays of sandwiches and coffee. Once he got carried to Swanton before he could get the cups collected. His mother didn't much care for his job because the older son, Charles, had been killed working for the railroad that very year, so rather than worry her he found other employment.
"He worked on a farm caring for cattle and stable for four winter months in 1902. At age 18 he took over the home farm entirely to stay home and look after his parents, giving up plans to become a jeweler's apprentice.
"Dad was named after his grandfather, at that gentleman's request."

(Source: The Conger Family of America, Vol. I, p. 198 - Maxine Crowell Leonard)CHURCH_AFFILIATION: Methodist
BIOGRAPHY: In a book written about Quebec, it states, that two families (Boomhower and Wallbridge) settled in the Mystic near Bedford. They were Loyalists from the States, given a grant of land in Canada by England after persecution in the States. They lived in a sheep shack all summer until about December when their home, a log cabin, was ready. It is thought that Grace Boomhower's great-grandfather came with his parent's when he was about eleven years old. Riley Boomhower's half-brother, John Grove, of Boston, bought and sent race mares to Riley in Canada to raise colts. The colts were returned to Boston for training and racking. Granddaughter, Marion Grace Conger, spent many summers on that farm playing with and riding these horses and colts.
