Mrs. Hattie Elizabeth Newman widow of the late B. B. Newman and daughter of Elias and Sarah Jane Miller Hafer, died at the home of her son Ward Newman on Terrapin Ridge on Tuesday, December 28, 1937.Several months ago she had the misfortune to fracture her hip, from which injury she never recovered.
Surviving are three sons, J. W. Newman, of Terrapin Ridge; W. T. Newman and J. O. Newman of Bebee; a sister, Mrs. M. B. Goddard, of Paden City; two brothers, W. B. Hafer, of Sherman, W.Va; and A. E. Hafer, of Ravenswood.
A daughter, Mrs. Autie Haudenschilt preceded her in death in 1931.
Funeral services were held at Anticoh Christian Church, of which she was a member on Thursday afternoon, December 30th, conducted by Rev. Joe Taylor, after which interment was made in Antioch Cemetery by the Wharton Funeral Service.

Mr. B. B. Newman, prominent farmer and leader in the Democratic circles in Wetzel County, died at his home in Bebee at 4:50 o'clock Wednesday evening. Mr. Newman had not been in good health for some time and suffered a paralytic stroke on Main Street in New Martinsville about three months ago. He was confined tin the Wetzel County Hospital for a short time and recovered sufficiently to be removed to his home in Proctor District, where for a few days he was able to be up and around. He suffered a relapse a short time ago and had been confined to his home for several days prior to his passing.
A son of James and Sophronia Newman, B. B. Newman was born near Proctor, this county, on May 18, 1854, and had been a resident of Proctor District all his life. He was well known and highly respected throughout the county having been County Engineer for a period of thirty-two years. He was for many years an active member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and had for the past forty-three years been a devout member of the Christian Church. Mr. Newman was a good man, a leader in those projects designed to benefit his community and county, and by his death Wetzel County suffers a loss which is deeply deplored and will be felt for a long time.
His widow, three sons, William Newman, Joseph Newman, and J. W. Newman all residing near New Martinsville; one daughter, Mrs. Auttie Haudenschildt, of New Martinsville, one sister, Mrs. A. R. McHenry of Wileyville 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren all survive.

Rachel Matilda Goddard, age 76 years, wife of Moses Goddard of New Martinsville (Rt. 1), West Virginia, died at her home Monday evening at 10 o'clock following an illness of six weeks. The remains were removed to the Wharton Funeral Home and prepared for burial and were returned to her late residence Wednesday afternoon.Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Paden Fork Chapel by Rev. R. B. Carver. Burial followed in the Kendall Cemetery.
Mrs. Goddard was born in Proctor District, the daughter of Elias Hafer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Charles Goddard, Wilford Goddard, and Lawrence Goddard of New Martinsville Rt. 1, and Andy Goddard of Midvale, Ohio. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. One brother, Bruce Hafer, of Jackson county, West Virginia, also survives.
